There are many people who say it is the same as dog fighting or cock fighting. I don't understand their arguments at all. You are not forcing the guys to get in a pit while feeding them steroids to make them more fierce. The fighters know what they are doing and most have been in martial arts or wrestling since grade school.
If you see any interviews with these fighters they commonly refer to it as a physical chess match. I also hear them say it makes boxing look like golf. It is very intense and to compete you need to have a vast knowledge of Wrestling, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu and Taekwando. While grappling you need to know various choke holds and submissions to succeed.
I laugh every time I hear or see someone's negative reaction to a sport that not only challenges your body but your mind. I would have to say my favorite fighter is Clay "The Carpenter" Guida, he brings so much energy to the sport. He is a young fighter in this sport and holds a respectable 23-9 record with 11 of his victories by submission. This is a great sport that outsells sports venues and concerts more times than not. They even built a reality show out of this sport it is called "The Ultimate Fighter" it airs on the Spike Network on Wednesday nights at 9:00.
